Big data tools, dynamic pricing and yield management are innovative commercial concepts whose applicability is lively discussed within the parking industry worldwide. While some European airports are highly interested in the commercial uplift potential of new big data tools or pricing methods others struggle with privacy concerns and customers‘ acceptance. The presentation tries to shed light on how these new commercial concepts could be of use for the parking business of US airports.

On May 2, 2018 Dr. Friesen explained to a total of 41 participants in a webinar of the International Parking Institute (IPI) how to gain a clear understanding of big data available in the airport parking industry and how to mine it. He showed how to identify opportunities on how to generate additional revenue out of data analytics and new technologies in airport parking as well as to attain insights in how yield management and dynamic pricing could be leveraged in airport parking.

On March 22, 2018 Dr. Friesen gave a presentation on “Monetising digitalisation: how to transform big data into parking revenue“ at the 24th Passenger Terminal Expo in Stockholm.

‘Digitalisation’ is the buzz word of recent years and has affected the whole customer journey at an airport. In particular, the first and last contact point with an airport – parking – can benefit tremendously from the new opportunities digitalisation holds. Not only does a seamless booking process enhance the customer experience, but so also does providing the right product for the right customer at the right price. This presentation was directed at airports that want to boost their car park revenue while still meeting customer needs. It addressed how big data and customer insights could be turned into profitable decisions.

The Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference has firmly established itself as the most highly regarded airport conference in the world with 7,000+ people attending and 375+ experts speaking. Since its inception in 1998 the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference provides a powerful international platform for the airport and airline sectors to interact and share common issues, goals and solutions about the airport industry, with a particular and unique focus on the terminal.
