The Diffusion of Dynamic Pricing in the European Parking Industry

Despite its potential, the application of dynamic pricing (DP) in European parking garages and underground car parks remains rare. In the issue 02/2024 of Parking Trend, a study by Dr. Mark Friesen and Prof. Sascha Albers is discussed, which conceptualizes DP as a practice and uses theories of practice dissemination and organizational implementation to explain its slow adoption.

One main reason for the slow dissemination process is the partially lacking technical and cultural suitability among European parking garage operators. Over time, and with the increasing acceptance of digital solutions, it is expected that more market participants will adopt DP.

The study shows that the industry is undergoing a transformation, and that dynamic pricing will increasingly be integrated into European parking management in the future.
